Twisted Metal is just about to debut on Peacock, and the company is celebrating by having a big presence at Comic-Con. This, of course, includes Sweet Tooth’s ice cream truck.

Sweet Tooth’s ice cream truck will have free desserts

Peacock announced that Sweet Tooth’s truck will, while supplies last, be giving out free servings of Salt & Straw’s exclusive (and undefined) Twisted Metal flavor fittingly called “Sweet Tooth.” Attendees, in addition to being treated with ice cream, will also be treated to a surprise musical performance. The ice cream truck is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. PT, while the musical show is slated for around 5 p.m. PT. Both will be at the corner of J Street and First Ave., which is right down the street from the convention.

The ice cream portion of Twisted Metal’s Comic-Con appearance won’t just be limited to the event, as Sweet Tooth and the truck are visiting Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Des Moines, and Chicago just after the event. The Sony Pictures TV Instagram account will have more exact times and dates in the near future. This flavor can also be purchased at three Salt & Straw locations in San Diego while supplies last.

Comic-Con will have a screening of the first episode at 10 p.m. PT in room 6DE, too. Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller is hosting the screening along with a Twisted Metal-inspired version of Kinda Funny’s game show Kinda Feudy where audience members will have their knowledge of the car combat series tested. The panel will also have “twists, turns, and surprise giveaways.”

As the pandemic continues to impact conventions and expos, San Diego Comic-Con is the latest to step away from plans for an in-person event in 2021. The San Diego Comic-Con physical event has been canceled, with plans now in place for a shortened Comic-Con@Home digital event this summer, as well as tentative plans for an in-person show in November.

San Diego Comic-Con announced the cancellation in a tweet, saying that July 2021 still appears to be too early to hold gatherings of this magnitude, and the in-person event is being postponed until the 2022 dates, and those with rollover tickets from 2020 would be further pushed to 2022. Ticketholders can also request refunds if they wish.

As with last year, organizers will hold the event as the free Comic-Con@Home online digital show, but this year’s event will be a shorter three-day event due to “limited financial resources” stemming from the difficulties of the past year. Comic-Con@Home 2021 will take place from July 23-25.

To continue with the spirit and passion of the in-person events that make Comic-Con, they are planning to hold a smaller three-day physical event sometime in November 2021, though at this time, full details around the event still have not been worked out. The November event doesn’t seem to be a full replacement for the canceled Comic-Con, but rather a smaller interstitial show to carry organizer, exhibitors, and fans through to the full return of San Diego Comic-Con as a physical event in 2022.

The official announcement of San Diego Comic-Con 2021 being cancelled comes just after reports of E3 2021’s own cancellation of its physical event, thanks to a schedule for an upcoming meeting from the Board of Los Angeles Convention and Tourism Development. E3 and The ESA have yet to officially comment on the cancellation, but reports last month said the show was already being planned as a fully digital showcase this year anyway. Former Nintendo boss Reggie Fils-Aime expressed his skepticism, saying that the plans for E3 2021 don’t sound all that compelling.

2021 marks the second year in a row that major industry tentpole events have been canceled in light of the ongoing pandemic that makes gatherings in large numbers impossible to do responsibly. Last year featured a number of delays, pushes, and cancellations with hopes that things would return to normal soon, but it looks like 2021 is set to be a rerun of 2020 as far as physical conventions and expos are concerned.

The more cinematic games become, the more like movies they become in their development. There are few games that exemplify this fact as well as Quantic Dreams’ upcoming thriller Beyond: Two Souls. Some facts have emerged out of the San Diego Comic-Con regarding just how much effort is going into producing this game.

At a recent panel during Comic-Con, Ellen Page was narrating some video footage of her donning a full-body motion capture suit, sitting inside a bucket-style seat. Page explained the purpose of the seat, but she quickly realized that was a plot point which she wasn’t authorized to talk about, as evidenced by her saying “and that’s the submarine. Oh, shit!” So, apparently during some point in the game, her character Jodie Homles winds up in such a situation. How she got there, why she’s using a submarine, and other details have not yet been given, but it goes to show you that David Cage and crew are going to take this new story in all sorts of different directions.

Speaking of that story, Cage let loose that he spent a full year simply writing the script of the game, and that it required 160 actors over the course of ten months to film in its entirety. From the outset, Cage pictured Page’s disturbed character role of Sherry from the film Mouth to Mouth as inspiration. By the time he was done writing the script, Cage said he could not see anyone else playing the part. Looking at what we’ve seen of Beyond so far, the resemblance is clear, and if anyone else voiced Jodie Holmes it would indeed sound weird. Page described being approached for the part with at first hesitation but then excitement:

My brain didn’t even know how to process this opportunity…[But after reading the script] it completely exceeded my expectations and was completely fulfilling as an actor. What David has written is so powerful and so beautiful.

Beyond: Two Souls is currently slated for release in 2013 exclusively for the PlayStation 3.

Marvel Pinball released late last year, as a standalone title separate from Zen Studios’ flagship title, Zen Pinball. We’ve seen some DLC in the form of additional tables staring your favorite Marvel characters, and coming soon is the antihero Ghost Rider. An announcement trailer has been released, and you can take a look at it after the break.

As can be seen below, the trailer of the Ghost Rider table shows off a highly animated pinball table. The cursed Johnny Blaze is here, flaming skull and badass motorcycle in tow. Mephisto is here in full demon form, as well as some other enemies including a certain renegade angel. It looks like the pinball can take on many different forms, including something that looks straight out of hell. Also teased in this trailer is an upcoming “Virtuous Announcement” to be issued during the upcoming New York Comic-Con. More information fresh from the Zen Studios announcement:

Motorcycle stuntman Johnny Blaze is cursed, doomed to live life as the Ghost Rider, a brutal spirit that exists only to mete out vengeance against evildoers. Get ready for duels with sinister villains summoned to the stage by Lucifer, all leading up to a final battle against the renegade angel, Zadkiel. Hell’s demons are about to learn what it means to mess with the Spirit of Vengeance.

Given Zen Studios’ track record when it comes to pinball games, this is shaping up to give proper fan service to the Ghost Rider franchise. Stay on the lookout for another new table coming to Marvel Pinball in a few days’ time!

While Dragon Age 2 was recently announced, that doesn’t mean gamers aren’t still enjoying Dragon Age: Origins. BioWare’s 2009 fantasy RPG has seen it’s share of downloadable content, and from the looks of it that trend will still continue.

A new DLC pack for Dragon Age: Origins is currently playable at Comic Con 2010, and while a name is yet to be announced, the direction for the content is surprising. Although the core game is very story-driven from start to finish, this upcoming DLC features at least one new dungeon, lots of difficulty but no story to engage in. Apparently, the content is aimed at experienced players looking to try themselves at a more challenging albeit rewarding experience.

The upcoming Dragon: Age Origins DLC has no set release date or title, but should be out within the next couple months. More information should be available in short order.

Just days ago it was reported that David Jaffe and the Eat Sleep Play team originally began development of their current title with an apocalyptic wasteland theme. Titled Twisted Metal: Apocalypse, the concept was thrown away due to some disagreements over the theme. However, not everything from the project was thrown away.

While at Comic Con, the developers at Eat Sleep Play showed some images for the first time ever from the scrapped Twisted Metal: Apocalypse project. As with every David Jaffe title, you can see that the game definitely had potential. Maybe the team will add a playable part from this interesting dumped title as an extra in their upcoming game scheduled for 2011.

You can see some images of Twisted Metal: Apocalypse below:

The past few years have been a dream come true for fighting fans with memorable games like Street Fighter IV and BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger entertaining millions, and upcoming releases such as Marvel vs. Capcom 3 still in the pipeline. However, the show isn’t over as a new fighter is preparing to enter the ring. Comic Con has now become the stage for one of the most surprising announcements for the fighting genre in years.

Both Capcom and Namco have partnered to create a new fighter titled Street Fighter X Tekken. Yoshinori Ono and Katsuhiro Harada took the stage at Comic Con today as thousands of fans cheered, and Ono said the following:

“This is history we’re making. Two fighting games that have rivalled each other are finally standing on the same stage. This isn’t just a showdown between Tekken and Street Fighter, but a decisive battle for Capcom and Namco Bandai Games. So I’m going to give it my all.”

Street Fighter X Tekken is being designed on Street Fighter IV’s robust engine featuring the proven 2D-fighting formula that fans have been enjoying accompanied by some new exciting gameplay to revitalize the genre. A Tag Team mode will be included which features several options to create a high-level of cooperative play with combo abilities and more.

A debut trailer accompanied the announcement which can be seen below:

One of the most shockingly-good reveals so far this year has been Sucker Punch’s anticipated inFamous 2 announcement. Influenced by Naughty Dog, the game is looking like a work of art in progress, but many gamers have been complaining about Cole MacGrath’s new look. Thankfully, the developers aren’t only great at making games, but are also great listeners.

Over at Comic Con, Sucker Punch devs have been showing off one of the most anticipated 2011 releases, inFamous 2. As reported by IGN, the development team for inFamous 2 have apparently been listening to fan feedback — Cole MacGrath has been changed to look more like the inFamous Cole instead of “pretty boy Cole”.

It’s good to see a videogame studio listen to fan feedback so early in a game’s development cycle. While the original Cole hasn’t been as iconic as the classic superheroes like Batman and Spider-Man, his “every man” look was part of what made him so original. Perhaps the new look will give Cole more of an identity this time around around and make him one of the premier mascots for the PlayStation brand.
