High on Life PS5 and PS4 trophy lists

The High on Life trophy lists for the PS5 and PS4 versions are identical. In fact, according to the lists that have appeared on Exophase, the only difference between the new trophy lists and the Xbox achievement lists is the addition of a Platinum trophy.

The vast majority of the trophy list are story-related trophies for obtaining weapons and defeating specific enemies. There are also collectibles to find and some missable side quests and optional tasks. The full list of 33 PS5 and PS4 trophies is below for those who don’t care about spoilers:

The appearance of the trophy lists confirms the rumor that started yesterday when a PS4 version of the game was discovered in a game update database. At the moment, High on Life is only available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A horror-themed expansion for the game called High on Knife is also in the works.

Gundam Evolution will shut down in November 2023

Gundam Evolution’s servers will go dark on November 29, 2023. Prior to this, Bandai Namco will pull sales of EVO Coins and EC Pod Limited, and end updates to EC Pods, CAP Pods, and Ticket Pods. The sales and updates will cease next week on July 26. Those who have already purchased EVO Coins will still be able to use them after this date. There will be no refunds.

Gundam Evolution will still receive Season 6 and 7 updates in August and October, respectively. The updates will add new units and maps.

As for why Gundam Evolution is shutting down, Bandai Namco says that it can no longer provide a satisfactory experience. “We wanted to create a title that brought FPS fans and Gundam fans together,” the company said. “We challenged ourselves to create an authentic Gundam FPS game that could be played globally. Unfortunately, we have determined that it is no longer possible for us to provide a service that satisfies our players.”

Sony adds more blessed stability to PS5 and PS4 via system update

The minor updates come with the good ol’ trademark patch note:

As usual, there’s a chance players will notice a change (or two) in due course, so we’ll keep our readers posted.

PS4 version 10.70 comes over four months after a major update. Version 10.50 was released in early March, allowing players to access authorized third-party apps and services via Settings. March’s update also improved the last-gen console’s compatibility with the PS App.

The PS5 hasn’t had a major update since March either, but did receive minor stability and improvement patches over the months. Sony’s VP of Product Management Hiromi Wakai said back in March that her team will continue to work on new features. “We are always thinking about the features that our fans might want to see and ways to make their gaming experiences on PS5 more fun, social, and connected,” she said.

The curious case of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, PS5’s SSD, and PC HDD

Explaining why Rift Apart was only releasing on PS5, Insomniac Games said back in 2020 that the console’s SSD made it possible to have seamless dimensional shifts and insanely fast loading — something that could not be achieved on dated hardware. Yesterday, Nixxes Software detailed Rift Apart’s PC port, revealing that the game “can be enjoyed using an HDD and the minimum system requirements,” while recommending using an SSD for best results.

Folks flocked to Twitter, Reddit, and even PS Blog to ask why Rift Apart wasn’t possible on PS4 if it didn’t require an SSD after all. Some even demanded a PS4 version.

“Well, since you don’t need the ‘ultra mega fast’ SSD from the PS5 to play this game, I am waiting for a PS4 version,” wrote one user. “But this was only possible on PS5,” wrote another. “Traitors,” wrote a third.

We reckon Insomniac is more well-versed in game development than PS Blog users, but what do we know.

There are 16 games coming to PS5, while PS4 players get a slightly bigger choice of 20 new game releases. While there are no standout AAA games, the highlights are Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes – Definitive Edition, a remake of the 2011 PS3 game, and tactical historical sim NOBUNAGA’S AMBITION: Awakening. Otherwise, some people may be lucky enough to take part in the Tekken 8 Closed Network Test instead, which is due to start on July 21. Registration for the beta has already closed, though.

Diablo 4 was nearly the best-selling game on PS5 and PS4 on both charts

According to Sony’s chart, Diablo 4 was the best-selling PS5 game on PSN in both the United States and Canada (which are paired together) and Europe during June 2023. While it was also the best-selling game on PS4 in the U.S. and Canada, it didn’t quite manage a clean sweep. The game only managed to get third place on PS4 in Europe behind Minecraft and FIFA 23. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise bearing in mind it made $600 million in its first five days of release.

Final Fantasy 16 came in a solid second place on PS5 in both regions. The game wasn’t released on PS4. However, this is a high performance since the game released on June 22 and only had nine days to claim its spot. FF16 has since become the fastest-selling PS5 exclusive. On the contrary, Diablo 4 had more than three weeks to notch up its sales after it was released on June 5.

Other new games to enter the top PS5 downloads chart include Street Fighter 6 (#3 in U.S./Canada, #6 in Europe) and AEW: Fight Forever (#12 in U.S./Canada). The former also made an appearance at #11 on the PS4 chart for U.S./Canada, but neither managed to chart in Europe.

Elsewhere, Beat Saber continues to dominate the new PSVR2 chart, although it is replaced by Creed: Rise to Glory – Championship Edition on the original PSVR headset. Fortnite, unsurprisingly, remains the most popular free-to-play game on PS5 and PS4.

Limited Run Games also announced that it’s ramping up development of its Carbon Engine, which will be used to bring Clock Tower, Jurassic Park, Gex, Tomba, and more to modern platforms. The company has renewed partnerships with a number of companies including Konami and LucasFilm to help its efforts.

New usage terms allow Dreams players to share content outside of game

Media Molecule has updated its terms of use, which grants players the ability to use music, animation, films, and art created in Dreams for personal and commercial purposes outside of the platform. Players must agree to the new terms and conditions.

Do note that after September 2023, players will still be able to create and play content created in Dreams. However, don’t expect any support or further updates.

Media Molecule has also released one of the final updates for Dreams, patch notes for which are as follows:

• Fixed several issues related to Playlist performance in-game.
• Fixed an issue where only 8 scoreboards were being presented per creation, and scores were not being posted as expected.
• Made improvements to search result speed and performance, both in-situ and while in DreamShaping.
• Fixed an issue where local saves of Dreams and/or Collections would take longer than expected to load in creations.
• Fixed several issues that caused search results to refresh while viewing Genealogy, Versions and Search.
• Updated wording to be more informative when deleting local versions of Collections and Dreams.
• Improved Update Mode. This will now highlight the canvas that a chip is stamped on, helping the user identify Elements/objects that may need updating.
  • Update Mode will now also highlight instruments when replacing a previously stamped instrument.
• Fixed an issue where searching in a Dream or Collection would not return any results.

There are 14 games coming to PS5, while PS4 players get a marginally smaller choice of 13 new game releases. The biggest of those is Capcom’s team-based dino shooter Exoprimal. There’s also the “leisure adventure RPG” Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg, squad-based RTS The Valiant, or multiplayer medieval slasher Mordhau. Alternatively, both Rain World and Naraka: Bladepoint will be making their debut on PS5 this week, the latter of which will be free-to-play.

Rainbow 6 Siege PS5 and PS4 anti-cheat may be deployed in future Ubisoft games

MouseTrap works by detecting mouse and keyboard use among console players, then adding extra lag to push cheaters to revert back to using a controller. Ubisoft says it was expecting a reduction of 30% to 50% in mouse and keyboard usage but ended up seeing a drop of 78%.

According to Ubisoft, penalizing players and giving them a chance to change their behavior is better than banning them outright. “We are able to confirm that this approach and new system has indeed contributed to a behavioral change,” the developer wrote. “Our data shows that after a first penalty, 43% of penalized players will continue to play the game without ever getting any further penalties.”

Considering its success, Ubisoft may consider adding a similar system to future multiplayer shooters. The developer has a free-to-player shooter, XDefiant, set to release this summer.
