After only saying it was coming in summer, the early access start date has been narrowed down for the online action RPG Wayfinder. Early Access Founder’s Season 1 will begin on August 15 and will let players access six different Lost Zones and six different characters, although the Venomess hero will be hidden behind the game’s battle pass.

How the Wayfinder early access Battle Pass works

The Wayfinder battle pass is called a Reward Tower. As is the case with other battle passes, there will be free and premium tracks, with each of the four Founder’s Packs giving varying degrees of access. As players gain XP, they’ll earn Reward Tower Keys that will unlock over 100 unique items over the different tower floors.

The main way the Reward Towers are different from conventional battle passes is that the premium track will never expire. Once a player has purchased the premium track, they can work on it at their own pace. There’s even the opportunity to gain progress on multiple premium tracks; only one can be active at any one time but players can switch freely between them. However, the free tracks will expire at the end of each season.

The Season 1 Reward Tower will have three tracks. The bronze Free Reward Tower offers 25 rewards and one of the components needed to summon the Venomess (the others can be earned through gameplay). The silver Paid Reward Tower gives access to all 100 rewards and all four components for the Venomess. Finally, the gold Premium Reward Tower offers all 100 rewards, instant access to the Venomess and her Nightshade signature weapon, and 20 Reward Tower Keys for a head start.

There will be four Founder’s Packs available at the start of the first season of early access. All will give players a Founders’ Flag Profile Background, Founder’s Glyph Pack, and “Wayfounder” Title and Profile Glyph. Here’s a list of the other bonuses players will get:

Base Pack

  • 500 Runesilver
  • Founder’s Season 1 Paid Reward Tower

Riot Forge has announced Ruined King: A League of Legends Story for current/next-gen consoles and PC.

Ruined King is a single-player, turn-based role-playing game that’ll expand the world of Runeterra for newcomers and veterans alike. It’ll feature two regions: port town of Bilgewater and a cursed island named Shadow Isles. Bilgewater is home to sea monster hunters, gangs, and smugglers. Shadow Isles is engulfed by a black mist that corrupts anyone who comes in contact with it.

As part of a group comprising of League of Legends‘ Miss Fortune, Illaoi, Braum, Yasuo, Ahri, and Pyke, players will be tasked with defeating a mysterious enemy.

Ruined King is a great way to expand the world of Runeterra for brand new players as well as our dedicated League of Legends fans,” said Riot Forge. “Ruined King will be the first single-player game to bring the League of Legends universe to both consoles and PC. We are excited to take this plunge into exploring stories and champions that players have enjoyed over the years, and can’t wait for our players to embark on this new adventure with us.”

Ruined King is being developed by Airship Syndicate, the studio behind Battle Chasers: Nightwar and Darksiders Genesis.

“We couldn’t resist the chance to work with Riot Forge to expand the epic world of Runeterra,” said the developer. “These are some of our own favorite champions, and we can’t wait for players to see how we brought the characters, creatures, and environments of Runeterra to life.”

Check out a trailer below.

Ruined King will release in early 2021 for current-gen consoles, and sometime later for next-gen consoles. Those who purchase the game on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will be entitled to a free upgrade.

The post Darksiders Genesis Review – Start at the Very Beginning (PS4) appeared first on PlayStation LifeStyle.

]]>
As a huge fan of the Darksiders franchise, I’ll admit I had a healthy amount of skepticism heading into Darksiders Genesis. Gameplay makes a radical shift to an isometric view, Strife gets paired up with War, and it’s developed by a different team than the mainline numbered games. But this prequel spin-off ended up surprising me, with gameplay that felt true to the series and a “buddy cop” dynamic between War and Strife that adds, rather than takes away. I still want a full-scale adventure as Strife (let my favorite horseman get his due!), but this holdover prequel experience by Airship Syndicate is a quality Darksiders adventure that earns its place in the canon, hinting at the immense possibilities for the franchise.

Darksiders Genesis formally introduces us to the fourth horseman, Strife, finally making the gunslinger playable for the first time in the series. We’ve seen him (or his guns) pop up in a few places before, but this is where we actually get to know the final horseman. Yet, it’s a bit unusual that Strife makes his debut in a non-numbered entry. War, Death, and Fury each starred in Darksiders 1, 2, and 3 respectively, telling each of their individual stories around the time of War’s 100-year imprisonment after he was framed for starting the apocalypse. The expectation, of course, was that Darksiders 4 would follow this format with Strife—and it still might. There’s a reason this game doesn’t bear the number 4.

Strife and War’s story is told through subtly animated comic-style art. Darksiders already has a history with comics filling in some of the gaps, and Genesis collides the worlds of games and comics with stunning art that gives the game’s story moments a lot of style. An opening CG cutscene (seen below) ahead of the game’s main menu shows the potential of a mainline Darksiders 4 featuring Strife, but the comic-style art is a high-quality production choice that never feels like it came at the sacrifice of fully rendered story scenes. It’s obvious that Genesis was never meant to be a proper Darksiders 4, but the quality feels on par with the rest of the series regardless.

Set before the events of the first three Darksiders, but after the fall of Eden and the Nephilim, Genesis is the story of the horsemen doing the Council’s bidding. In this case, Lucifer is up to something that threatens the balance, and Strife and War are dispatched to find out what that is and stop it. Fury and Death are off on some other assignment, which perfectly allows Strife and War to riff off of one another.

Darksiders Genesis Review – Strife and War

Strife is a carefree gunslinger. He’s clever, quick-witted, and thinks for himself. War is resolute, staunchly upholding his duty to the Council while just wanting to murder every demon in sight. The dynamic between the duo ends up enhancing both characters, even as I was worried at Strife having to share center stage. Turns out giving your protagonist a constant companion helps give both of them more life. As much as this story is about the events leading to the creation of the seven seals, it’s almost more a personal story that helps players understand War and Strife, and begins setting up for future dynamics among the four horsemen. Still, Strife deserves a proper solo outing to expand on where he was during War’s imprisonment.

Having two characters helps the gameplay too. At first, I was stubbornly only playing as Strife. If this was how they were going to introduce my boy, I’d make the most of my time with the character. But it turns out not only is War a great asset in combat, he’s required for a good majority of the puzzles in the game. If you’re playing solo, you can swap at will between the two characters. There’s a synergy to their abilities, Strife offering a more long-range twin-stick shooter style of gameplay while War gets up close and personal with his Chaoseater sword. War also has a number of returning abilities from the first game, though some (such as the Void Bomb) are given to Strife instead.

Darksiders Genesis review

War and Strife fighting side by side also means this is the first time the Darksiders franchise has had cooperative play. While it’s entirely possible to get through the game as a solo player, it’s easy to have a second person drop into the party at almost any time using the multiplayer obelisks scattered throughout each level. Both online and split-screen are supported. It’s not quite the four-player cooperative adventure the series seems to be building up to, but it clearly shows the direction that THQ Nordic wants to take the franchise as a whole.

Darksiders Genesis Review – That Familiar Darksiders Feeling

Though the shift to an isometric view—a la Diablo—seems like a pretty radical shift, but in practice, Genesis is still a Darksiders game through and through. Anyone who’s played the other games will immediately feel the familiarity. Not as much has changed as a first glance might have suggested. In fact, while one might expect the change in view to invite other elements of Diablo, Darksiders 2 was far more of a loot-based game than Genesis is. There are still plenty of RPG aspects that allow players to customize the builds of War and Strife through “creature cores” and other upgrades purchased at the series’ demonic shopkeep, Vulgrim.

Instead of the relatively open and interconnected worlds of the mainline games, there are 16 total separate levels (technically 17 with a secret boss encounter against a familiar foe) that can be accessed from the Void, the game’s hub area—a space that sports an insane and distracting amount of echo and reverb on everything from dialog to footsteps). There are also a series of way-too-many arena fights to undertake.

Darksiders Genesis review

Some of the levels are larger and more elaborate, while others feature relatively quick boss encounters in a single space. Some of the larger spaces can be a bit of a chore to navigate thanks to a terrible map that is rarely ever centered correctly and fails to display the location of your character. It’s easily one of the game’s most underdeveloped aspects, though there were a few bugs and gameplay hiccups in combat too, mostly in regards to chain attacks either not-chaining properly or attaching to already dead enemies.

All-in-all, Darksiders Genesis takes about 15 hours to work your way through. An unlocked apocalyptic difficulty offers some reasons to revisit the levels, but it doesn’t do anything perceptibly more than make the enemies tankier while turning your characters’ health bars into glass. With the limited RPG aspects, the prospect of replaying the entire game with a bunch of bullet sponges isn’t all that enticing, particularly some of the late-game boss encounters that can already tank a lot damage on normal. You can’t spec a character build that’s different enough to warrant undertaking these arduous challenges.

Darksiders Genesis review

Darksiders Genesis is not Darksiders 4, but it’s still a worthwhile addition to the Darksiders saga. Isometric gameplay fits the Darksiders formula surprisingly well, and Strife is given a lot more character by having War by his side. Even War’s character was deepened through his buddy cop adventure with Strife, and it makes me excited for when the four horsemen’s paths all finally converge. Darksiders Genesis shows the potential the franchise has to explore different pieces of the timeline in different gameplay styles while hanging onto certain central threads. There are a couple sticking points Genesis fails to iron out, but coming from a place of initial skepticism, it serves its place in the canon well.

It appears the Diablo-esque Darksiders Genesis will provide a meaty experience, similar to mainline Darksiders entries. Apparently, Genesis, comprised of 11 stages and five boss battles, will take players about 15 hours to complete on average. This merely takes into consideration a single playthrough, minus time spent meandering and replaying levels.

The 15-hour figure can change, however, depending on each player. For instance, those who spend much of their time on horseback will get through the game at a quicker pace. Players who instead choose to primarily navigate the hellish world on foot are bound to take longer.

Variables that additionally factor into Darksiders Genesis‘ length include harder difficulty levels, like the unlockable Apocalyptic mode. Whether players decide to farm for resources represents another of such variables. Scavenging does not seem a useless effort either, especially when considering the importance of resources such as Creature Cores, which are integral to ability upgrades.

Genesis‘ Design Director, Steve Madureira, noted in an interview with Escapist Magazine that exploration will be worthwhile. “We reward exploration,” Madureira explained. “A lot of things are hidden throughout. Secrets, puzzles. The structure of the game is mission-based, so you can replay a mission and look for stuff you missed the first time.”

All of this contributes to the game’s more “arcadey Darksiders experience,” added Ryan Stefanelli, series Co-Creator and Airship Syndicate President. In some respects, this seems accentuated by the studio’s desire to give players more reasons to replay levels. Stefanelli explained,

When we were thinking about how we want to approach what we show the players versus tell the player, we thought it would make it a more interesting experience to tell players exactly what they failed to acquire so they know, ‘I have to go back and find this chest and some Boatman Coins and I’m missing an ammo type.’

Darksiders Genesis will ride onto PC and Google Stadia on December 5th. The title’s PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release date is slated for February 14, 2020.

THQ Nordic announced a different type of Darksiders experience earlier this year from developer Airship Syndicate. Darksiders: Genesis will see the series take on a Diablo-esque style of adventure, starring War and Strife. When will this new take on the franchise land in the hands of fans? Well, PlayStation 4 owners can hop in on February 14, 2020. There is nothing quite like a trek through Hell on Valentine’s Day, right?

Accompanying the release date details is a brand-new cinematic trailer. The second playable character alongside War, Strife, stars in this latest look at Darksiders: Genesis. Get a tease of what type of Hell you’ll be dealing with in the trailer below:

Darksiders: Genesis takes place prior to the original game’s events. Players will battle through hordes of angels, demons, and other types of creatures in an effort to stop a demonic conspiracy. At the heart of said conspiracy lies a plan devised by Lucifer to forever upset the Balance, which will in turn result in the dismantling of creation.

Preorders for the title are already live online for PS4, PC, Stadia, and Xbox One. In addition to the standard version, fans have two special editions from which to choose. The Collector’s Edition costs $120 and features a statue, steelbook, stickers, and the game. Darksiders: Genesis‘ Nephilim Edition is far more expensive, with a price tag of $380. It includes everything packaged within the Collector’s Edition, as well as Darksiders: The Forbidden Land, the board game. Unfortunately, the board game, of which there are only 5,000 copies, will not be sold separately.

THQ Nordic released a new gamescom 2019 gameplay trailer for the fourth installment of the Darksiders franchise: Darksiders: GenesisFunny enough, they posted the new trailer during the Stadia Connect livestream, thus announcing the game will be coming to Google Stadia as well as PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Genesis stars both War and Strife, who are still reeling from the horrific aftermath of Eden, where the Four Horsemen wiped out all of the Nephilim at the behest of The Council. This time, though, they have a new assignment. They must hunt down Lucifer and his master demons. Lucifer has been giving these master demons more power to help upset the Balance, possibly permanently. If they win, they could unravel all of creation.

As you’ve probably guessed, (or you already knew) this is a prequel before the events of the first game. This is also the first time we get to see and play as Strife. (Editor’s Note: Here’s to hoping Strife gets his own starring game with a proper Darksiders IV eventually!)

Gameplay features a isometric top-down view that is unique to the series, traditionally known for its third-person action adventure style. Players will be able to swap between the swordplay of War and the gunslinging Strife at a moment’s notice during battles. Or players can team up with a friend for two-player co-op mode.

Check out the trailer below to see War and Strife in action.

Darksiders: Genesis will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Stadia in 2019. As soon as we get a more specific release date, we will be certain to share, so stay tuned!

Have you enjoyed the Darksiders series? Are you looking forward to Darksiders: Genesis?

THQ Nordic recently announced two separate collector’s editions for Darksiders: Genesis, the Diablo-style Darksiders title from Airship Syndicate. Coming packaged in the more expensive of the two editions is an official board game—Darksiders: The Forbidden Land. Finally, more information about the board game has emerged. The sad part is THQ Nordic’s confirming fans can only pick up the board game by purchasing Darksiders: Genesis‘ $380 Nephilim Edition. In addition, only 5,000 copies of the Nephilim Edition will be produced worldwide.

In Darksiders: The Forbidden Land, four friends adopt the roles of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: War, Death, Fury, and Strife. A fifth player can join in and play game master, someone responsible for the monsters. If a fifth player isn’t an option, the game features rules concerning how monsters and enemies should behave.

Darksiders‘ Four Horseman will each have unique asymmetric abilities in the board game. Card management will be critical to player success; once a player’s deck runs dry, that’s it, game over for them.

The Darksiders: The Forbidden Land board game will pack in all of the following contents:

  • 61 Miniatures
  • 124 Tokens
  • 36 Multi-Hex Modular Boards
  • 423 Cards
  • 4 Player Boards
  • Custom Dice
  • Rulebook
  • Campaign Book

Featured in the Campaign Book will be The Forbidden Land’s story, which includes more than 19 levels, grouped into numerous scenarios. Depending on the preferred length of a game session, players will have to decide how to complete each of the scenarios.

For a closer look at the board game’s contents, check the image gallery below:

At the time of writing, Darksiders: Genesis still lacks a release date. However, the title will launch sometime this year for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox One. Fans should probably expect a launch date announcement during gamescom 2019, which begins August 20th and ends on August 24th.

The game itself still lacks a firm 2019 launch date, but Darksiders faithful can preorder two collector’s editions for the Diablo-like Darksiders: Genesis. One of the special editions is pretty standard: $120 price tag, nice looking statue, steelbook, stickers, etc. However, the second offering is behemoth not only in size, but also in cost. The Nephilim Edition will run consumers $379.99. It appears the added cost comes courtesy of one major addition to the regular Collector’s Edition–Limited Edition Darksiders: The Forbidden Land board game!

The premium packaging for the Darksiders: Genesis Collector’s Edition will feature the game, an art book, physical copy of the original soundtrack, a Strife figurine that stands approximately 9 inches tall, steelbook case, and a set of stickers. Genesis‘ far more costly Nephilim Edition, of which only 5,000 will be produced worldwide, is set to include everything in the Collector’s Edition in addition to the Darksiders: The Forbidden Land board game.

Contents of the Darksiders: The Forbidden Land board game include all of the following:

  • 61 Miniatures
  • 124 Tokens
  • 36 Multi-Hex Modular Boards
  • 423 Cards
  • 4 Player Boards
  • Custom Dice
  • Rulebook
  • Campaign Book

For a closer look at everything packaged in both special editions, check out the Nephilim Edition’s trailer below:

Preorders for both editions are currently live on Amazon. Hopefully, this means THQ Nordic and developer Airship Syndicate feel reasonably confident about the release that’s yet to be made public. It’s possible such news will surface in the coming weeks, as the publisher has massive plans for gamescom 2019 in late August.

During the upcoming show in Cologne, Germany, THQ Nordic will feature the following games on the show floor: Darksiders: Genesis, Biomutant, Desperados III, Destroy All Humans, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, and a still unannounced title. Additionally, the company intends to reveal three more games behind-closed-doors.

Gamescom 2019 will begin on August 20th and conclude days later on August 24th.

THQ Nordic has announced Darksiders Genesis, the newest entry in the long-running series. However, this will be a radical departure from the usual Darksiders formula, offering up a Diablo-esque experience. It is being developed by Airship Syndicate, which is actually made up of employees from Darksiders creator Vigil Studios. Set to release later in 2019, Darksiders Genesis will allow players to finally play as the last of the four horsemen: Strife.

Along with the announcement, THQ Nordic released a cinematic trailer, which gives just the briefest glimpse at gameplay:

According to the Amazon listingDarksiders Genesis will center around War (protagonist of the first Darksiders) and Strife as they are “given a new assignment.”  They’ll apparently have to stop Lucifer, who wants to “grant power to master demons throughout Hell.”

Unlike the previous Darksiders games, which featured a gameplay style similar to the original God of War games, Darksiders Genesis instead presents a top-down view. Like other games in this vein, you’ll be collecting plenty of loot while you make your way through these dungeons. However, expect other Darksiders staples, like giant boss battles and puzzle-solving, to return.

We previously knew a new Darksiders game would be present at E3 2019. With Darksiders Genesis being playable at the show, expect to learn more details about its gameplay there.

Darksiders Genesis follows 2018’s Darksiders III, which came six years after the release of Darksiders II. We gave it a positive review, though noting it would struggle to find its audience outside of the core fanbase.

The reveal of Darksiders Genesis follows yesterday’s reveal of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated. We still have one more game set to be revealed in the lead-up to E3 2019. These are all supposedly part of the over 40 games THQ Nordic has in development, but don’t expect to see news about most of them at E3.

Darksiders Genesis will release in 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One Nintendo Switch, PC, and Google Stadia.

It came out a week ago on PC, but Battle Chasers: Nightwar update 1.03 is now available for consoles. It features a ton of gameplay tweaks, and should help reduce the crashing issue that plagued the role-playing game at launch. It’s great to see the developer working on its issues, even if it shouldn’t have launched in such a state.

Check out the full Battle Chasers: Nightwar update 1.03 patch notes below:

Gameplay

* The elusive Belevros has made more of a permanent home in Deadwatch, and should now always be much easier to find when sought.
* The Endless Arena should now work as expected, with climbing enemy difficulty, boss waves and climbing multipliers!
* Less excitingly, Battle-length buffs do not last indefinitely in Endless Mode anymore – every Phase counts as a battle for Buff purposes.
* Liches now tire of spawning skeleton minions a little more realistically.
* The Unstable Bomber will no longer traps players on the Victory Screen, thus allowing it to keep its place as the most rewarding screen in the game and not the most frustrating.
* Garrison’s upgraded Warblade now only consumes up to 60 Overcharge.
* Legendary dungeons are now available in your first playthrough of a Dungeon (though we ask to verify you’re REALLY SURE you want to do that to yourself)

Localization

* Various bugs fixed in Localization, including persistent HTML issues in the French language.

Crashes

* While ending the game after the Credits seemed ironically appropriate, additional care was put into place to prevent crashing there.
* Our Video Player has been updated on PC and Mac in the hopes this resolves issues for many players unable to play the game due to video issues.
* Polished switching out characters after Party Select in order to prevent crashes related to memory.
* Added potential fix for a hang in Path of Fangs when returning to the Lycelot Traitor.

UI

* There wasn’t enough detail about what you were crafting in the Crafting section of the Compendium because there was a part of the view missing! More stat detail can now be toggled to see how crafted equipment might affect heroes!
* Font sizes in the combat screen have been increased so that you may recline luxuriously at a greater distance from your screen.
* Some people were fruitlessly clicking on the Toggle Skin button in Party Select to turn on their new skins. We have provided fruits for their efforts! This button should now work as expected.
* Last line of the Combat Abilities view should no longer be cut off.

Other

* Backup saves on PC and Mac are automatically seamlessly loaded in place of broken/corrupted save files. Additionally, if an issue occurs with saving your progress, the game will let you know to restart the game so you do not keep playing and lose progress.
* The game now runs properly on environments in the Turkish language.
* We fixed an issue where you could get stuck on the main story quitting while/after fighting the Bandit Messenger.

Battle Chasers Nightwar update 1.03 is available now.
