Sony has always claimed that the PS3 was in it for the long haul, stating that the console would have a ten year life cycle. Bethesda’s Todd Howard has chimed in offering his opinion on when consumers can expect to see a successor to Sony’s sexy black box.
When asked by PSM3 magazine when gamers can expect to see a new console Howard said:
I think it’s going to be a while still, I really do. I think consumers are happy with the current ones, there’s a lot you can do with them. So I don’t think it’s coming next year or the year after.
Howard also said that his team had considered moving Skyrim to next-gen consoles if they couldn’t offer an experience that was up to their standards:
We want to be fresh. We don’t want it to feel, visually or technically, ‘Oh this is Fallout 3’ or ‘this is Oblivion’ And if we couldn’t do that we would have waited.
There is no doubt that Skyrim looks amazing and gamers will have a huge new world to get lost in for hours this holiday season. The real question is are you satisfied with what the PS3 is currently offering or are you ready to jump into next-gen?
