Squanch Games has confirmed what was already obvious: The goofy first-person shooter is coming to PlayStation systems. However, PlayStation players don’t even have to wait since the High on Life PS5 and PS4 ports are out right now for $59.99 on the PlayStation Store.

The High on Life PS5 and PS4 ports are out right now

Buying one version entitles players to the other. These ports don’t seem to have any new features or content, though. Regardless, studio director Mike Fridley thanked PlayStation owners for their patience.

“The fans have spoken. And spoken. And spoken,” said Fridley. “We’ve been thrilled with High On Life’s reception since it launched in December. Our PlayStation fans have been slightly less thrilled, which is why we’re so excited to share that it’s coming their way very soon. Like now soon! Thank you for your patience!”

This port seemed inevitable, as it was found on a patch update database earlier in the week. Trophy lists for the game were also uploaded to sites like Exophase and PSNProfiles the following day.

Squanch also talked a little about High on Knife, the game’s first expansion, and said it will come to all systems at the same time, meaning PlayStation players won’t have to wait. IGN got an extended look at the DLC and even interviewed two members from Squanch who talked about the upgrades for Knifey, new abilities, and the gun voiced by Sarah Sherman from Saturday Night Live that will all be in DLC.

Squanch also released a trailer for the new port that doesn’t feature Justin Roiland’s name or voice in any way (and it even lists 26 other voice actors). This isn’t too unexpected since news broke that Roiland, who is most known for co-creating Rick and Morty and voicing the titular characters, was arrested and charged with felony domestic battery and false imprisonment. This spurred other reports to come out that alleged he preyed on some minors, harassed his female colleagues, and was generally not an attentive worker. The criminal charges were later dismissed, but this was well after Adult Swim and Squanch had severed ties with Roiland. Roiland wasn’t featured in the DLC’s trailer, either.

High on Life PS5 and PS4 versions were revealed by trophy lists that appeared online today. While developer Squanch Games is yet to make an announcement about the game’s new platforms, High on Life is appearing at the IGN San Diego Comic-Con Takeover soon, where more details are expected to emerge.

High on Life PS5 and PS4 trophy lists

The High on Life trophy lists for the PS5 and PS4 versions are identical. In fact, according to the lists that have appeared on Exophase, the only difference between the new trophy lists and the Xbox achievement lists is the addition of a Platinum trophy.

The vast majority of the trophy list are story-related trophies for obtaining weapons and defeating specific enemies. There are also collectibles to find and some missable side quests and optional tasks. The full list of 33 PS5 and PS4 trophies is below for those who don’t care about spoilers:

The appearance of the trophy lists confirms the rumor that started yesterday when a PS4 version of the game was discovered in a game update database. At the moment, High on Life is only available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A horror-themed expansion for the game called High on Knife is also in the works.

High on Life was released on Xbox platforms and PC in December 2022 and set records for Game Pass. PlayStation owners were left out, but that may not be the case for long, as a High on Life PS4 version was spotted online.

High on Life is likely coming to PlayStation

As noted by Knoebelbroet, a listing for High on Life showed up on the game update database Orbis Patches. It shows that the shooter is on patch 1.03 and around 9.8GB total. This listing was only created on July 17. There is currently no entry for a PS5 port, but it’s possible that it may show up eventually since not many titles of this stature only ship on PS4. It was natively on Xbox One, as well as Xbox Series X|S, after all.

There’s been no official confirmation of a possible port. However, it seems likely that it’ll be announced at Comic-Con. High on Life is one of the games scheduled to be at the show in some capacity. It also has a horror-themed expansion on the way called High on Knife, but not much is known about it. It would make sense for the DLC to come out alongside or just after a PlayStation port.

High on Life was a little divisive when it launched. The quirky first-person shooter hit an average score of 70 on OpenCritic, and while some loved its irreverent humor, others found it incredibly grating.

The game got caught in the crossfire over the controversy surrounding Squanch Games co-founder Justin Roiland, who is most known for co-creating Rick and Morty and voicing the titular characters. Shortly after High on Life’s release, it came out that Roiland had been arrested and charged with felony domestic battery and false imprisonment. This spurred other reports to come out that alleged he preyed on some minors, harassed his female colleagues, and was generally not an attentive worker. The criminal charges were later dismissed, but this was well after Adult Swim and Squanch had severed ties with Roiland.

While Squanch has not said much after his departure, the teaser trailer for the High on Knife DLC didn’t include Kenny, the gun that Roiland voiced. It’s unclear (but still very possible) that he’s still in the main game, though.

It’s always good to get more content for a game, especially for free. Offering up exactly that, the Trover Saves the Universe free DLC will have you exploring his job and interacting with his boss.

Going under the name of Important Cosmic Jobs, the DLC features a more slice-of-life styled section for the game. While the main game may be about Trover going on an intergalactic quest to save both his dogs and the universe, this time around he’s simply at work trying not to get fired. You’ll get a chance to explore his office and meet the people that he works with, which, knowing the humor in store, will certainly be an interesting bunch of characters. You also need to deal with his “insane boss.” The PlayStation Blog post, written by Squanch Games co-founder and Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland, promises that “it’ll be just like real life! Only less depressing!”

In addition to getting to mess around with Trover’s job, Important Cosmic Jobs will also feature a new mini game called Space Slam. There are no actual details as to what Space Slam is or how you play it. In fact the blog post even jokes that it’s not sure why anyone would care because no one knows what Space Slam is, but it’ll be available to play. New animated sketches are also available to watch using a VCR player, such as one labeled “flower juice.” Knowing Roiland’s humor… we’ll just let you discover that one for yourself.

If you don’t already own Trover Saves the Universe, the game is also going on sale for 15% off. The game is a platformer that can be played with or without VR, and has you guiding Trover through various combat challenges and puzzles. We got a chance to check it out back at E3 2018. Trover Saves the Universe is developed by Squanch Games, who also brought Accounting+ to PlayStation 4 back in 2017.

Limited Run Games is at it again, this time with a physical release of Accounting+ from Crows Crows Crows and Squanch Games. This comes by way of the official Limited Run Games Twitter account. The tweet notes that this will be a Limited Collector’s Edition containing lots of extra goodies, in addition to the boxed version of the game itself.

The contents of the Limited Collector’s Edition are as follows:

  • Accounting+ for PS4
  • Tree Guy Plush with recorded voice lines by Justin Roiland!
  • 18″ X 24″ poster
  • A special coin

If you aren’t familiar with Accounting+, it’s described as a nightmare adventure comedy from Justin Roiland, the co-creator and executive producer behind Rick and Morty. And this dark sense of humor makes its way into Accounting+ in a prominent way, giving it its own identity.

The PS4 version included in this Limited Run Games release requires PSVR, bringing you into an immersive and twisted world that hammers you with abrasive dark comedy. If you’ve ever seen the Christoper Nolan film, Inception, you’ll feel right at home with Accounting+. But instead of going through dreams within dreams, you’re tasked with going through virtual realities within virtual realities.

It’s a unique concept that works mostly well, despite its lack of player interaction. Many critics enjoyed the dialogue and characters, but criticized it for its linearity.

If you’re a PSVR fan and want a new reason to bust out your headset, Accounting+ is a good choice. If you’re already a fan of the game or Justin Roiland, Limited Run Games has you covered with this physical release.

The first batch of preorders will go live on June 26, 2019 at 10am ET, with the second batch available later that day at 6pm ET. If you’re interested, you can preorder it for $64.99 during the aforementioned times.

If your PSVR is collecting dust and you were looking for something else to play on it (or you simply want more great games for your PSVR), Trover Saves the Universe is available today on the PSN. From the co-creator of Rick and Morty, Justin Roiland brings us a new game with a ton of personality and an emphasis on comedy. What’s awesome is that the game will be supported with post-launch DLC for free, according to a write up from Roiland himself on the PlayStation Blog today.

In terms of the free DLC, there is no word on what it will entail exactly, or when we’ll get to experience them. The blog article simply states (in classic Roiland humor) “But instead of [making it more expensive], we will be adding fun side adventures to Trover in the form of DLC packs ALL FOR FREEEEEE!!! We’ll be releasing those as time marches forward and we slowly decay and eventually die. Do you think the cosmos gives a **** about you? We are nothing.” We’ll let you know as soon as we find out more.

You can play Trover in non-VR mode, as well, but the game does make use of the PSVR headset in a great way. Whichever way you choose to play, you’ll likely have a smile on your face as you journey through the universe to save your dogs who have been, well, dognapped.

We got a chance to preview Trover Saves the Universe at last year’s E3 and praised it for its puzzles and comedy, and even ranking it among our best games of the show. And having another thing to play on your PSVR is never a bad thing, so we absolutely recommend picking up a copy.

Trover Saves the Universe is available for PS4 and PSVR for $29.99, which is hard to pass up. If you’re playing it, let us know what you think!

PSVR is becoming more and more worth while, as PlayStation’s State of Play revealed a slew of release dates for the platform during its stream today. We got a look at seven more VR games with official release dates. Here are the games in order of release date:

Falcon Age – April 9, 2019

Table of Tales – April 16, 2019

Jupiter and Mars – April 22, 2019

Everybody’s Golf VR – May 21, 2019

Trover Saves the Universe – May 31, 2019

Mini-Mech Mayhem – June 18, 2019

Vacation Simulator  – June 18, 2019

Falcon Age, from Outerloop Games sends you on a single-player adventure where you play as Ara as they bond with a baby falcon and work to escape from a colonizer prison. You can play Falcon Age with or without PSVR and you can use the PS Move Motion controllers or the DualShock 4.

Table of Tales is inspired by tabletop RPGs and the table itself acts as a pop-up book, with different chapters for each adventure. The team at Tin Man Games notes that there are single-player and multiplayer modes available, giving the game more longevity. This one will be out soon.

Jupiter and Mars comes to you from Tigertron and focuses on exploring the ocean as two dolphins — Jupiter and Mars. Since we aren’t getting a new Echo the Dolphin game anytime soon, this will have to hold us over. You can play Jupiter and Mars in VR or without — either way, your goal is to rescue wildlife and meet interesting creatures throughout your journey.

One of the more exciting games shown during PlayStation’s State of Play was Everybody’s Golf VR, which now has an official release date. Playing Everybody’s Golf in complete 360 degree VR will make it tough to put down…probably.

In Trover Saves the Universe, you’ll be tasked with rescuing your dogs from a “beaked lunatic named Glorkon”. This comes from the co-creator of the Rick and Morty series and looks like a lighthearted and fun time.

Mini-Mech Mayhem is yet another tabletop experience and has an emphasis on mechs and destruction, as well as a vibrant art style. This one comes to you from FuturLab, best known for the Velocity games.

Finally, we got a release date for Vacation Simulator, the next adventure from Owlchemy Labs. In the same vein as Job Simulator, with a focus on wacky ways to complete tasks. Humor seems like it will be at the forefront with this one and we’re looking forward to it.

That’s not all that was announced during PlayStation’s State of Play. We saw a ton of announcements, detailing new PSVR releases for this year.

The post Trover Saves the Universe Might Be Getting Published by Gearbox; PC Version Also Rumored appeared first on PlayStation LifeStyle.

]]>
It looks like Trover Saves the Universe, an upcoming action-platformer developed by Squanch Games, might be getting published by Gearbox Software. While nothing has been officially stated, Trover Saves the Universe was rated in Brazil with Gearbox listed as the publisher. This was spotted by Gematsu and posted to Twitter. Gearbox recently published Borderlands 2 VR so this would be familiar territory for them considering that game’s use of PlayStation VR.

Trover Saves the Universe was originally announced as a PlayStation 4 exclusive that had PSVR functionality. However, in Brazil, the game was rated for both PS4 and PC. This suggests that the game may come to PC at a later date, making its PS4 release merely a timed exclusive.

The game received a parental rating of  “not recommended for children under 16 (sixteen) years” on both listed platforms. In terms of its rating, Trover Saves the Universe is characterized by its “inappropriate language, violence, and sensitive topics.” It received this rating due to its frequent use of inappropriate language, violence against animals, mutilation, and intentional death. According to the rating board, the fantasy context lessens the impact by being unrealistic and comical but that also trivializes the violence.

Given the crass, nihilist humor Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland is known for, it’s no surprise that his studio’s game falls along similar lines.

Trover Saves the Universe will release sometime in 2019 for the PlayStation 4 with optional PlayStation VR compatibility. Be sure to read our preview from our hands-on time with the game at E3 2018, which says that the PSVR version of the game will be the definitive way to play it.

The post E3 2018 Hands-On Preview: Trover Saves the Universe is Pure Justin Roiland appeared first on PlayStation LifeStyle.

]]>

Hey, what’s up everybody? I’m reviewer guy! We’re here on PSLS to take some looks at this new game I’m gonna show you right now. Trover Saves the Universe. Let’s give it a look (this is your cue to watch the trailer). Oh whoa! That’s some action-platforming stuff. I’m the reviewer guy! I’m always reviewing, but you know, it’s not about me right now. It’s about this game (please watch more of the trailer). Whoa, look at that! That’s exciting footage that I just saw. Oh, I played it at E3. Look at me, I’m a cool cucumber over here, previewing this cool game.

Just before E3 this year, I got a mysterious meeting request. Squanch Games–the studio founded by Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland–would be in Sony’s press lounge and had something to show me. It was very secretive at first. The studio hadn’t even publicly announced that they would be at E3, let alone have something playable. At the Sony press conference, a bizarre game called Trover Saves the Universe was announced. It had a dude in a bathtub, a guy with two little faces for eyes, and plenty of Justin Roiland’s signature dialog.

Justin Roiland’s got his hands–or rather, his voice–in a lot of games now, specifically VR games. Some are simply games he’s lent himself to, like Job Simulator and Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality, and others are games created by his own Squanch Games studio (formerly Squanchtendo, but changed for obvious reasons). Their first PSVR game, Accounting+, was more of a virtual experience than an actual game. There was a lot of listening to hilarious and bizarre dialog, but not much in the way of actual gameplay.

Trover Saves the Universe remedies that by adding Justin Roiland’s voice to a game full of actual gameplay. The game features two characters: the guy on the chair (the player) and Trover, the dude with two eyes on his eyes. Yeah it’s weird, just roll with it. Trover is a talkative one, and Roiland had recorded special dialog just for those playing at E3. Trover spoke directly to me as a reviewer and asked me to consider giving the title Game of Show.

Trover Saves E3

Sitting in the chair from first-person view, I was able to control Trover from third-person. It’s an interesting blend of gameplay styles. In classic Roiland style, Trover Saves the Universe breaks a ton of conventions. The gameplay is very much tied to the dialog, so as floating yellow naked guy flitted around me, yelling curses about some asshole named Michael, it was my responsibility to just move on. In fact, the dailogue changes quite a bit depending on what actions you take in the game. If I smacked naked yellow guy, his dialog would change briefly to address that. If I tried to look away, he would swoop in to always be taking up my view. If I ran off on secret side paths as Trover, he would comment on where I was going and what I was doing.

Trover Saves the Universe Preview 1

One puzzle near the end saw me trying to solve a button puzzle that would up being unsolvable. The clues, once again, were in the dialog. While I was furiously trying to solve the unsolvable, Trover was yelling at me to just come down from there and stop trying. Eventually I lowered the chair from where I was attempting to solve the button puzzle and was able to just smash through the door as Trover. After bashing through the door, the camera panned out to show the rest of the level and the dialog once again found a self-referential nature, talking about how cool the full game is going to be, once again asking for Game of Show, and then mentioning that the screen was going black as it faded out.

Good news for those that don’t own PSVR: Trover Saves the Universe is available as a standalone PS4 game as well. The PSVR version seems like the definitive way to play (I didn’t actually try it on a normal screen), but for those without the headset, you can still get in on Justin Roiland’s unconventional but hilarious venture into games. You won’t want to miss this one, and you can trust me on that. I’m reviewer guy, a cool cucumber who got to preview this game. Game of Show? In many ways, it just might have been.

Don’t miss all of our E3 2018 coverage.

I didn’t want to be a writer anymore. Too many letters. I thought I’d pursue a new career path in the number-centric field of accounting. What better way to do that than with Crows Crows Crows and Squanch Games’ new training software for PlayStation VR, Accounting+? It’s  clearly better than the standard Accounting software, handily signified by the plus sign that follows the name. What I failed to realize is that Accounting+ is not just an ordinary accounting training program. It’s a whirlpool of Inception-like VR hellscapes that taught me nothing about numbers and made me kill a guy. Maybe it was a bug in the software? The developers really ought to take a look and see if they can get that fixed, because I was really just trying to learn accounting and ended up meeting Satan.

It’s hard to call Accounting+ a game, as much as it is an experience. It’s comically dark and abrasively coarse. If you’ve seen the trailer, you know what I’m talking about. A majority of the enjoyment comes not from interaction, but in listening to the borderline insane dialog that just keeps going and going. It all begins in the main menu. A soft voice, introducing himself as Clovis, walks the player through the early moments, and more often than not I was content just to listen to what sounded like a warm blanket in vocal form. Eventually, I cleared the first area and was put into a basement office. It was time for my accounting career to really begin.

Play the xylobones! Pour stomach acid on them! That makes beats! Somehow.

From here, Accounting+ is a spiral downwards into a hellish VR abyss. Each area basically tasks you with finding a VR headset and putting it on, going deeper into VR within VR, within VR, and so on. Having played through the full thing twice, Accounting+ is far more linear than it’s guise might suggest. There’s not much to interact with in each area, and there’s basically one way to move forward. A couple of amusing secrets are scattered through the game. When you find the exceptionally creepy basement stalker level, your dreams will never be happy again.

Get Out of My Review! This is My Review!

To be honest, I could probably write a walkthrough guide, including secrets (except the damned impossible to find “secret zoo level”), that would be shorter than this review. This again is where the joy of listening to the dialog is the true entertainment in Accounting+. If you were like me, when you discovered Justin Roiland’s voice doing Car Talk Radio in Job Simulator, it was easy to sit and listen to it on repeat. “Then there’s the tubes, and the, the metal. And the roof is the highest part of the car!” There’s a silly and absolutely absurd nature of seemingly being entirely serious about making a complete joke out of being completely oblivious about something. Much of the spoken word in Accounting+ is the same way.

It all begins with Clovis, speaking endlessly about a point-to-point teleportation system that the deemed “Place Stations”. He goes on and on about how it’s time to “Place Station move, or perhaps, Place Station DualShock 4.” He talks about how the second Place Station, the Place Station 2, is widely considered to be the best Place Station. I seriously listened to the whole thing until the dialog cut out and Clovis stopped talking. For each and every interaction just in this main menu area, good old Clovis had a wealth of lines that got me laughing out loud, even if I never actually learned a thing about accounting.

Hey! F*** you! This is my screenshot! F*** you! Get out of my screenshot! It’s mine! F*** you!

Later on, it’s the cool kids gang who wanted me to be cool too, but I had to prove myself to them. Torrenting the Garfield movie? Check. “You wouldn’t download a car! You wouldn’t download a car!” one of the anthropomorphic animal gang members keeps throwing out. All three characters are talking over each other, like friends who think their joke is the best, and desperately want to be heard on repeat. Then I picked up the brick, and that was simply too much for them. Their attitudes shifted. Beer, porn, graffiti are all fine, but the moment I had the brick in my hand, they all got scared. Wait long enough before throwing that brick through the window and it starts talking too.

There is No Zoo Level

Rinse and repeat this process on each level. The puzzles are never really difficult, or even what I would consider to be puzzles, but the persistently hilarious dialog left me sitting in the headset laughing my ass off. “I’m a judge, and I hereby pronounce you death!” says the VR court judge while trying me for killing the king of VR by slicing him open down the front, after which I used his heart as a VR headset to get to a demon summoning ritual and bring the devil into the world using a fresh rap and a chicken wing made of poop. Seriously, everything I just typed actually happens in Accounting+.

Accounting+ can be quickly completed in under 30 minutes if you breeze through the levels without listening to the dialog. On the average side, you’ll probably spend somewhere between an hour or two with it. Listening to all of the dialogue from every character in every level is probably upwards of three to four hours of recorded voice acting. That’s not including the ever-so-mysterious Zoo Level, which fans are beginning to think is a massive troll by the creators. If it does exist, it’s something that a very, very small subset of people will ever see.

These two want to summon Satan, and they’ll use rap to do it!

Accounting+ is a novelty, brilliant to experience, but hard to recommend. I was highly entertained by my time with Accounting+, but after this review, I am thoroughly done with it. Repeated playthroughs don’t really offer anything new on the gameplay front, and the dialog becomes less funny on repetition. There’s also the glaring issue that I still haven’t learned anything about accounting. I got yelled at by a guy in a tree. I killed a fat king. I got tried for murder after dying from summoning Satan. I became the Leonardo DiCaprio of VR (GET IT?!? I MADE AN INCEPTION JOKE!), but I never learned a single thing about accounting.
